Deadstock Kreis Wallets

Nick recently came across some deadstock Horween leather, in the form of veg-tanned calfskin from 1949. Explaining why the leather can’t be re-created, Nick says, “My great uncle used to work here. He’s the one who came up with this formula, this veg-tanned calf formula, which we forgot how to make. We lost the formula. That’s the last of it.”

In need of a partner to transform the irreplaceable leather into something special, Nick went with Kreis, the same company that made the briefcase. Nick hoped the German firm would devise a design as unique as the leather itself, and Kreis didn’t disappoint. “There are four pockets on the inside and the pockets sit vertically instead of horizontally,” Nick says. “It’s a much slimmer carrying wallet. I carried one for awhile and it's definitely the slimmest carrying bifold that I’ve found.” The Kreis wallets are available in limited quantities via the Horween site, in natural and burgundy.
